Jason Gianni is a drummer, educator, author, and seasoned session musician whose extensive career spans live performance, Broadway, studio recording, and international clinics. He holds a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from Pennsylvania State University, a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Delaware, and also completed a Jazz Minor. Jason further refined his craft at The Collective Global Vision, where he studied under drumming legends such as Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Clayton Cameron, Mike Clark, and Kim Plainfield.
Jason is perhaps best recognized as the drummer behind the iconic theme song for SpongeBob SquarePants and as co-author of the popular instructional book The Drummer’s Bible. His session work spans television, radio, film, and commercials, and he’s featured on the Hudson Music DVD Set Up, Tune and Play Your Drums.
In the performance realm, Jason has played drums for major Broadway and touring productions including Rock of Ages, Kinky Boots, Americano, and Little Shop of Horrors. He was a regular sub for Mike Portnoy with progressive artist Neal Morse, and has toured with projects such as the Ed Palermo Big Band, Marc Martel & The Ultimate Queen Celebration, Rebel Rebel: The Many Lives of David Bowie, and tribute acts like The Royal Scam and Rubix Kube. He also served as house drummer for La Voz Kids on Telemundo.
As an international clinician, Jason has taught and performed in Italy, Switzerland, China, Spain (La Rioja Drum Festival), and at major events like PASIC and Philly DrumPhest. His teaching experience includes long-term faculty roles at The Collective (since 2006), The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, The New School in NYC, and most recently, The Yamaha Music Conservatory.
With a passion for both the technical and expressive sides of drumming, Jason Gianni brings a wealth of knowledge, stage-tested skills, and real-world experience to every student and performance.
